Today I am going to share with you a porridge recipe that is super-food packed, alkalising and rich in minerals and vitamins – a great breakfast to start your day! This is a healthy, raw, vegan, dairy-free, sugar-free and gluten-free recipe using Chia seeds, maca root powder and any fruits of your choice. It is easy and quick to make and the healthy benefits are many.
Since I went raw I became a huge fan of chia seeds. Adding regular small portions of chia seeds to your diet will help you detoxify your intestines and boost your immune system. They are super rich in iron and protein, and as well as in Omega-3 essential fatty-acids, which make them a very effective anti-inflammatory to help fight joint pain, arthritic pain, muscle spasms and period cramps. Chia seeds are very rich in minerals and antioxidants, they are anti-ageing and promote healthy bones and teeth. They can also help you control your blood sugar and mood swings, reduce high cholesterol and they are effective in regulating bowel function. Because of its absorption qualities, Chia seeds will expand and turn into a pudding gel-like texture when blended with liquids, and this will make you feel more satisfied and full for longer and help you avoid unhealthy cravings.
So keep on reading to watch this yummy video and grab my chia seed breakfast recipe.
I hope you will try this recipe at home, add your own touch, make it your own – and leave me a comment to let me know how it goes 🙂
SUPER FOOD CHIA SEED AND FRUIT PORRIDGE RECIPE
(Ratio – 1 part of Chia seeds : 3 parts of liquid)
1/4 Cup of chia seeds
3/4 Cup of pure water, herbal tea or any plant-based milk (I use coconut milk)
1 Teaspoon of grounded cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon of grounded nutmeg (optional)
1/2 Teaspoon of grounded ginger (optional)
1 Teaspon of Maca Root Powder
4 Medjool dates (pitted and chopped)
Any fruit you like (Mangoes, Bananas, Strawberry, Apples, Peaches… I use bananas in this recipe)
In a medium sized bowl, mix the dry ingredients and the medjool dates. Add the Milk or your choice of liquid and mix well. Reserve it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow the chia seeds to absorb liquid and expand (I keep it in the fridge expanding overnight). Once your chia porridge is ready, top it with fruits and serve. Enjoy!
